Years ago, when we were young, I crewed the RAC yacht called The Red Jerboa. I remember Mr Barne being skipper and racing off Cowes in Cowes week in the Prince Consort Buoy Race. We won our class and got invited into the Royal Solent club for a drink or three. Do also recall Mr Barne trying to get up a spinnaker when everyone else had at least one reef on the mainsail. Just cant remember who were the other unlikely mariners........Any Takers???
Phil I have some photos of sailing course in the early 60's and some of some very smart yachts
ReplyDeletea long shot you don't remember the mainsail number. Also pictures of Eddie Edwards doing course out of Kiel with a very young Pete Finch!!
Baz, Hi like to see pics of Eddie and Pete. If you google RAC Yacht club theres quite a bit on there. By the way have just hooked up with John on Facebook.....are you anywhere near him?

I too crewed a yacht with Lt. Barnes 63 or 64?, my 1st ever sail on a yacht and I was sick as a parrot. I seem to remember that Pete Why? was a fellow crew member and he too was sick. We also went to a bar on the island, can,t remember exactly where though. Put me off yachts.
