Don
I surely remember Roger Brooker manfully trying to make sure we did more than opon up a couple of back decks for first parade!!!!! Think he got a BEM if so he richly deserved it as the tank hangar were not the most motivating place to start the day.
ReplyDeletePhil
Sorry about the typos!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMike, thanks for informing us of your find, will be good to get him on the site, we are always on the lookout for ex Royals, I do get a few on Forces Reunited, we send them a message and sometimes we get a reply saying they would like to join us, I have got an invite to one person to join us but he has not got back to me, but this happens regularly but we do keep trying behind the scenes to find people that were in the Royals as we know there are still quite a number out there.
ReplyDeleteJohn Atkins
He would have been in "A" Sqdn. with me but I can't recall him. If he gets on line we might learn more about him.
ReplyDeleteThe Roger Brooker you are talking about Don I believe he took a commission but I've no idea what happened to him after that. He certainly was a nice bloke. He was S/Sgt REME in " B Sqn". Tidworth.
Paddy
Ah ha, Forces Reunited. No, never joined (paid member that is) See John - I'm a loyal member to this site only mate! However, they are very persistent with their emails, almost to the point of harassment! Now tell me John, in their latest email they say they have 224 Royal Dragoons. As you know, there are only 176 members here so where the hell are the other 48 ?
ReplyDeleteall the L.A.D remembers roger brooker,he was jokingly known as staff brooker B.U.M. I believe it was somthing to do with vehicle movements in cyprus for some emergency or another.that he got the B.E.M for.
ReplyDeleteas regards tpr brooker,i wonder if he ever met ex lad member roger beard, hes from carlshalton too.
ReplyDeleteAll this chatter about Roger Brooker brought back something to the CO and I yesterday evening, our Son Steven got on the school bus one day,the new Mrs Brooker had just started as "bus escort" - my Steven, being a gent, got on the bus and said to the lady "where would you like me to sit Mrs Brooker".The answer was short and to the point "on your backside of course"!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes - Forces Reunited keep asking me for money too!

Don
Stan probably most of them have past on and no one has told them, have you ever tried informing them, I did once after Mick Lock died and they asked me for his details, IE when he joined Forces Reunited what year, how the hell was I supposed to know all that so I just did not bother to answer the idiots. I will not be bothering with them again as you cannot get anyones Email address or give your own unless you are a full paid member, they can go and get stuffed as far as I am concerned as they are not worth the hassle and I will be telling them when they ask me to subscribe again .
ReplyDeleteJohn Atkins

I was Given a Sterling to protect them and I had to stay with the Bus and Driver till school came out , and took them back home .
Who else did this run ? and were you armed ?
I think the SMG was to protect one from the little rascals?By the way,I'm back,Paris vist was great, weather too, travelled around mostly on the Metro(pretty scruffy)saw all the things we wanted to see, apart from the tourist spots the City is pretty grotty, the food not what I expected,as for Parisians - did'nt see very many!Hope you have all been good lads?

ReplyDeleteTime to Draw , Draws winter 3 , socks wollen 4 prs . Get a PIG in just in case you get snowed in ,
mike
Thanks for reminding me - need a couple of new snow shovels before the first flakes fall.Gotta be plastic though as the Alu ones dig in and get ragged quickly.New winter tyres on next week - Michelin Arctic A4s,they are top of the pops this season, and winter tyres help when once the temp sinks under 7c!!!! - not just by ice and snow.Gone pretty cold with night frosts here, but the days are brilliant with unbroken sunshine.

Don
Bet you wish you were here , in Sunny GUERNSEY WHERE THE SNOW IS LIKE FATHER CHRISTMAS NORMALY ONCE A YEAR

ReplyDeletebrother Tom has just put me on the Poppy Collectors list for this year
He is still in charge , all the crops in from the allotment ?
Another glorious day after a night frost, not a cloud in the sky.Picked the last raspberries, but there are still tomatoes in the greenhouse, plus the herbs are all standing.Bought my Poppy from the Sally yesterday when I got the English TV programmes, not that we watch it that often, far too much advertizing.Hope you are all enjoying the weekend.
