Question?

I'm putting together Uniforms of the Regt from 50's. On the BDU uniform did we display Cloth shoulder Titles or Brass.

If you have any more pics tucked away showing uniforms or Vehicle Decals, would very much like to see them.

  1. When I was issued my BD in 62, the titles were in brass.

  2. brass titles were worn in 48/49.Vehicles at Regimental HQ at Wolfenbuttel had the Hanover District div sign ,a white prancing horse on a red shield.A squadron on detachment in Berlin had the Berlin garrison sign a red circle on a black background without the Berlin that was added to the top of the circle in later years.

  5. Can confirm Bob Signals message for Wolfenbuttel. Still have my brass "Royals" and the cloth Div.Signs, Hanover Horse.. Original "Royal Dragoons" cap badge was replaced by the "Eagle" in 1949. N.C.O.s above Lance Corporal had the silver "Monkey" (Lion and Crown) over badges of rank, but I can't remember on which sleeve. Perhaps some more elevated person can help out? Working dress was the black overalls with a brass "stripe" or "stripes"..The old Cap
Badge had a grey cloth background.

  6. The silver full rank badge was worn on the right arm above the stripes!!Got one somwhere, but can't seem to find it(unless one of my kids had it?)We were all glad when the old cap badge went as we were often mistaken for Pay Corps!!!!(nothing againt the Pay Corps - especially when going on leave and getting ones credits - or a quick casual after a losing poker game!!!!)

  9. It's a White Horse on a red shield. There is one on my sleeve in the photo on the left, but it's a bit small even when enlarged. I could do a pic. of the real thing but I'm not successful in sending photos on the internet to the Royals website. I was looking through the "Photos" pages, and there is a picture of the old Badge on a grey beret, and another on a grey patch on page 17 at the bottom left.

  14. By the way,did I ever tell you about the time the CO woke up and found the Hannover Horse hanging on her wardroble. No - then here is the story.Mess night in Wesendorf, the RSM(think it was Ernie Vowles)decided to get Jock Plumbly and his Bussing to drive us to the Meschee Club(on the banks of the Meschee sea inn Hannover)Well we had a great night, and apparantly I was that led astry with drink that I climbed two of the flagpoles and pinched the two 3X3metre flags of Niedersachsen and Schweswig-Holstein.And some how I got 'em home, hung them over the wardrobe before I sank in oblivian, and nearly caused a divorce the next morning.Oh yes,it made the news, was in the Hannoverisch-Zeitung too, daring thieves steal two Landerflags, sweated a bit,and when things quitened down did the right thing and sent the flags back!
    Oh to be young again!!!!!
