the song of the nightingale

sitting in the garden tonight, listening to the sound of the sun going down,as always, I noticed a nightingale looking for food, when another one (nightingale ) came and joined him the first one was very aggressive and a fight followed, accompanied  by a chorus of song from at least 4 other nightingales up in the trees. so there you have it, when the nightingales are singing so sweetly all night you can bet there is a punch up somewhere near and they are laying  their bets. frank

  2. are we ready for a spot off profanity ? as you should be aware Often sit in my garden and listen to the sound of the sun going down, last night one of those sounds was the melodious duet coming from the 300 year old oaks, it was as beautiful to me as the sounds of the Sunday morning church bells lilting across the Blackmoor vale the sounds of this Duet reminded me of Keats lines....."The voices I hear this passing night was heard
In ancient times by emperor and clown... it was of course a pair of nightingales who sang to me all night, and when I arose at 5 to get the newspaper from the front gate they were still a-singing on my way back I thought I saw a Lark rising from the "set-aside" meadow ( I will wear my glasses in future ) I thought how melodious it would be if I had the nightingale as a nightcap and the Lark as morning awakener. Later my son asked what was that bloody bird that kept him awake all night? don't know sez I, never heard a note , and thought of a german saying.....
Where there is song make that your home, for wicked people have no song. G'dnight Frank

  3. I love listening to the dawn chorus, but one of my son's hates it he is more of a night bird as he works in the theatre and so likes to get up when the clock has reached double figures e.g. no earlier than 10.00am. He always complains I am up at a sparrow's fart, that is before 06.00am. I think it is the best time of the day no noisy traffic or people around , I have time to myself. helene
