Hiya people. Here are a couple of snaps I took when i visited Sammy on 11th Aug 2011 at his lovely home in Paignton, devon. We had a great time recalling memories of Detmold and after.
like us all Sammy is showing his age, but I bet he still retains that fiery disposition. I hope he is enjoying his retirement. In fact I spoke briefly to him fron here in Australia, where there are a number of ex-Royals who send him their best wishes.
Many thanks, from Tony Rantell, I served under Sammy in Singapore and Detmold.
Now that Ray is a military secret, probably around the 50s like me.Still olooks like from the old days, only difference is that tash used to be kiwi black!Brings back many happy memories, thanks for the pictures! -------- Don
I can, he is 82. We lost Mum in January and their Sister in Law in June so he is a bit on his own down there. Hoping to drag him up to Essex in later this month or early next. When I pull my finger out, I shall post some photos of his army days. Sue
Yes - wonderful days with Sammy - wish I could have 'em over again.Won't go into detail,or I'd go on for ever. And if Fred and Sue keep us in touch with Sammy they will be my pals for ever!As for those remarks on MY age, don't feel a day over 50???But my hair colour has changed too! -------- Don
Sammy taught me a lot and for that I thank him. 1954, 67 Trg Regt to 1975 Windsor. I am sure, in fact I know I'm not the only one that has Sammy to thank for setting an example "SPECTEMUR AGENDO" Sammy and God Bless. .......... John Matthew.
I would like to second John Matthew on his comments about SSM Simpson He was my first SSM on arrival to C,Sqn in 65 This man lead by example and i cant thank him enough for being the SSM he was.not forgetting Paddy Paul - Jim Heath - Jim McKay - Wartoski and without a doubt RSM Clarke To those who remember Yoshidara Squadron and banzi
You look in top condition Sammy - I can still remember Hohne/Saultau in the 60s and your command to Cocoa Company "When I raise my ceremonial stick in the air you will all shout Banzai" and they did.
If it wasn't for Sammy taking me to the MRS in Hohne i could have lost some fingers or even a hand by all accounts After the accident in Cpl Livingstone tank and no thanks to a certain SQMS thank you for being the SSM you were .
Sammy forgot to put his makeup on
