1st The Royal Dragoons memorabilia

Hiya folks.   During the course of my travels, I recently  visited Princetown, Dartmoor.   Located just behind the Old Police Station Tea Rooms is an establishment called "Pressed Men" where I managed to buy Royals cufflinks (£14) and BRASS cap badges (£4).   They also make and sell other items such as Fridge magnets, coasters wall plaques Tie pins/clips etc.  Their website is www.pressedmen.co.uk,   email:  info@pressedmen.co.uk or phone 01822890411. Hopoe you find this helpful. Tiger

  5. One place I never landed was the calaboose. But from all accounts prisons are now next best thing to Butlins, here too, some criminals just took the State to court and got damages for being"kept in accomodation not suitable for humans?????"Always thought prisons were the sort of places where once in you said "never again"?
    Ah well.

  6. Dartmoor always remind's me of Renny Lentny camp and adventure training while at JLR Bovington. Being looked after by Sgt Norman ( Daddy) Hales of the Royals.

  8. Hiya nebbs. next time you're there, pop in the tea rooms and try Dougs cream tea, scrummilicious, I quite often take 49 punters with me, Spent 90 minutes with Sammy Simpson at his house in Paignton recently. Sat on sand bags with the light swinging relating war stories and memories of Detmold. I'll put photo's I took of Sammy on the Royals website asap, alabest Tiger

  10. I was with one of the last units to use Renny Lently camp before it closed. Circa 1990 ish I think. The accommodation was superb so much better than the nissen huts with no doors or windows AND there was HOT!!!! water. Unfortunately "Daddy" Hales was not there with his ghost stories.

  11. Worst accommodation I stayed at was the Transit camp Harwich. (While waiting for the Harwich/Hook ship to return which
was full first time round) Best described as "Garden Sheds" with two-tier wooden bunk beds, just like you see in those POW films. And treated just like POWs too, no NAAFI and not even allowed out of camp! Don't suppose those claims for being "kept in accommodation not suitable for humans” is retrospective by any chance Don?

Some website that "pressedmen.co.uk" Do you know that’s the first & only website I've come across that lists the good old
P58 (RN Ship that took us to the Philippines) HMS Woodbridge Haven. Orders gone in, which I hope to get in time for my
    second birthday, thanks to John!

  12. I spent almost a couple of hours with Sammy and he was very lucid, jovial and in good health for his age, apart from the normal ageing process. He was hit very hard by by the double tragedy as Sue, his daughter, has mentioned elsewhere. Sammy still remembers me arriving ( 5ft tall, 6 stone and looking about 11 yrs old). He asked Bob Sproats to march me in and "Sprocket" said, "He IS in Sir". Sammy's desk was nearly as tall as me. Sue, Sammy's daughter contributes to this site, so any messages for Sammy will be passed onto him. Alabest Tiger

  14. Sure will John "Woods Navy Rum" and as I'm the only Pongo around I get more than one go at Queens’s. Still can't get over the P58 being on that website, which means there might be ex-crew members in that area? …or more likely still in nick!!!
