Hi from New Zealand. The massive 7.1 earthquake was in the South Island of New Zealand, we live in the north of the North Island about 600kms away. Some people did feel it up here though. It was on Saturday at 4.35 in the morning and apart from two people with serious injuries, the rest are relative outpatients type injuries. Had it been at any other time there would have been quite a few deaths and serious injuries. The amount of people though who could related to near misses is quite staggering. There is quite a lot of damage in the city of Christchurch. The city is very English with lots of old buildings and it is these that have suffer the most damage. They are still having big aftershocks which is causing more damage to buildings. Walter
My brother in Wellington said they felt the shock(but then they often do)and the damage in Christchurch and Canterbury was pretty bad. They are still having "aftershocks"! ------- Don
