A nice service was held for Derek, his last parade....
I believe in total six members of the Regiment attended.
Nearly all of Derek's family paid tribute to him by wearing the Regimental tie, with tie clips and lapel badges. True site of "wings of eagles"
Well done to those members who were able to attend the Service,I'm sure that Pat and the family know that we all wished we could have been their today to pay our last respects to a true Royal who was held in high esteem by so many.

Thanks also from myself to those that were able to go and represent all members of the Bulletin Board to a true Royal as keith has said, he will be truly missed by myself for all the good times we had on Skype, and his assistance on the BB, As we all know if it not been for Derek we would not have been all reunited and got together for the reunions, I think you will all agree he was a good ambassador for the 1st The Royal Dragoons Bulletin Board
ReplyDeleteI would like to mention Derek’s grand-children, they carried the coffin in and out of the church, performing a perfect slow march, and then they took turns to say a few words, all of which were light hearted remembrances of their grandfather. This was carried out with real aplomb.
ReplyDeleteA very touching Family service ,As a regimental Commitee member i would like to say thanks to the ex Royals who came and paid there respect to a fine old Royal Dragoon ( R.I.P) Derek.
ReplyDeleteSorry I was unable to make Derek's Last Parade. It was obviously a very moving occurrence . I agree, he was a great ambassador not only for the BB but for the Royals as a whole. He will be sadly missed.

The family would like to thank everyone for their cards, condolance messages and donations to "Help for Hero's". My father was very proud of his children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, hopefully his final parade showed how much they cared for him and his perculiar sense of humour :-) RIP Dad.
