Museum @ Hartlepool

Had a great afternoon yesterday. Visited the Heughbattery Museum at The Headland, Hartlepool.  Well worth a visit if/when in the area. Has a long history, going back to the 1800s.

Visit/review the website.   www.heughbattery.com

Majority of exhibits are cannon and artillery weapons, but some really interesting items.

They recently took delivery of a Chieftan Tank, Saracen APC and Ferret Scout Car.Sadly, no Saladin.

The previous owner had to remove them off his site, so he donated them to the Battery.

The armour have no insignia. I!m hoping to get printed "Eagle" transfers to attach to the turrets.

Regards  Doug.

  3. Keith, there was a museum near Liverpool that had to close for some reason or other (no lottery funding) amongst other exhibits were a German U-Boat and a 'Ton' minesweeper which were not easily movable. I think the docks were sold off for some housing development or other. I think the Ton minesweeper was HMS Bronington from Prince Charles’s last command and was of the same type that we were on off Borneo - the last remaining Ton sweeper in the UK and it should have been saved with lottery funding! (Ton Class minesweepers were called Ton's because all their names ended in 'Ton' like as in Southampton) couple of pictures of us being transferred at sea below. See what you can find out - just ask them where the U-Boat is now! Cheers.

Sgt watts above was also on HMS Repulse at Cape Canaveral and now lives in the USA
