For your amusement

Was driving to work this morning when I saw an RAC van parked up. The

driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to

myself 'that guy's heading for a breakdown'

  1. Good, I’m glad. Wife had a puncture the other day but she couldn't get through to them on her mobile so rang me at home to try our land line. Phone answered and I told them she'd got a puncture and couldn't get the wheel nuts undone! I also told them she was a disabled driver and on the busy ring road in the middle of Stourbridge. So when I phoned her back with the news that it was going to take them 3 hours to get to her the only other option was for me to go and do it myself. I think the only useful thing about the RAC is the "get you home service" if you have a major breakdown miles away from home.

  3. Only happened to me once, the ADAC fixed the fault and I was on my way in 20 minutes. And these modern cars,no full spare wheels anymore, just a blowup outfit or at best a "notrad",which is limited to 50kmh - lot of good if you are in the middle of a journey of 100OKM - so much for "progress"!Never feel at ease on a journey without a fully fledged spare!!!!

  4. Actually Don she didn't have a puncture it was a 'Pot Hole' that caused the rim to leak. I too had difficulty undoing the wheel nuts as garages seem to over tighten them using compressed air these days. And not the first one I've had this year I might add (live in pot hole country). I now carry a couple of cans of that foam tyre seal (£2.50 from Netto) and a mini 12v air compressor (£5 from Lidl). Much easier than having to get the spare wheel out. Well that's what I've told the wife she's got to do next time... or pay 'ME' for the call-out!!!

  6. Ah yes "potholes",our roads are full of them after the strong winter and the tons of salt used. They are now putting up signs warning one,or cutting the speed limits, these pot holes can be very damaging to wheels, tyres, steering,or even suspensions! The trouble with these compressed air "cures" is they do not last - and you have to bring your speed down a lot.Just dug out my new car spec - yes - you guessed right - only a "notrad",bet I now get my overdue flat(due, according to the experts, about once every 7 years)and since I hav'nt had one for about twice that---------!!!!!!!!!
And on top of that, where do you put the "flat" if the boot is full???
    Lifes hard.
