Christmas Cards

Dear Blues & Royals Commitiee Members.
It would be nice to be able to purchase a Christmas Card showing a Royal Dragoon. I frame all my cards and send cards to all my friends but to date they are all showing Royal Horse Guards and Blues and Royals. It would be nice for all ex Royals to be able to purchase a card showing a Royal Dragoon also a Blue and a Royal together.
I am sure there are lots of paintings of both Regiments that could be used.

  2. No but would like all attenies to contact me with names and numbers so that I can confirm numbers for the conference/social rooms, also  buffet or sit down dinner. If they can give their preference it would help, I can then get a costing from the Inn. Those who have had reply's by phone or letter are requested to let me know name's and details. When I have the above information I will be able to publish a list, I think the information will be help Brian for the Waterloo Service on Sunday. I have spoken to Trevor Collet who is an ex Blue and a good friend of the Royals, you may have seen some of his work on our site, he does a lot of picture framing and has had two versions of the Royals Blazer in gold wire made. Trevor also purchased all the Royals PRI stock which I am hoping to put on sale at the reunion in June 2009. Should anyone wish to contact Trevor he has given me permision to put his phone number in the note. Phone: 01895 832375 for those who don't have my e-mail address dragoon.847@btinternet.com

  4. Dear Geordie65, I appologise for stepping on your toes so I will officially put it in print. "I will take no futher part in the Royals Reunion 2009". Please read " Royals Reunion 2009, Msg's 20-57. As you will see I took the liberty of provisionally booking the Faclities Room in my name The reason I put the added reminder on the "Christmas Cards" discusion was, I told the Premier Inn that I would give them provisional numbers so they could give me a provisional costing, we would have looked silly if the booking was left too late. As for ex Royals contacting me you will see their names on the above mentioned "Royals Reunion 2009", My Son , Brother in Law and their partners are also booked in for those dates, but will only attend the Saturday evening function if numbers allow, my son is an ex member of the Blues & Royals with 18 years service.. 5. JOHN the reason we did what we did was because we never got any feed back? It is nothing about standing on toes.if you had asked  for members to join a committee JOHN and MYSELF would have been the first to  volunteer

  6. Thank you for your prompt reply, When we met last June and talked about the reunion I didn't think that I had enough information at hand to ask for volenteers for a commitee. I got the impression, that with too many individuals spread so far apart it could cause a communication problem. I spoke to various contacts and persons by phone, mail and email and got lots of sugestions and advice, all were different,    Venue, Messing and Cost. I was hoping we could have it in the area of NMA as this we did this year, as it is a central location. I did not like to say to anyone that, this is the date and the venue and this is what is going to happen as was suggested to me. Hence my resignation from the organising roll. It appears that this was a good move as the responce  was good and that the majority on the web site agreed hence only 7 rooms left. Many of the members recognised the 18th of June as being a important date in the Royal Dragoons Calender. All the above is being achived by the members them selves with the help of members who live in the area. I don't think a commitee could have done any better. All that is required now is the stalwarts who have volenteered to do a recce in November and let everyone know how things are going.  JohnM

  9. Paddy I understand your confussion. It reminds me of the monthly Mess Meeting, but like the Mess Meeting it will end with great P... Up. Do you remember when Jim Clark was RSM and it was compulsory to go to the mess every Friday night, each Sqn formed a team. We turned the Mess into an assult course ? Jim (Nobby) had his sleave ripped off and the Mess ended up like a bomb site. the fun and enjoyment ended when we got our Mess Bills. If I remember it was Sammy Simpson and Ken Lloyd who were the perpertraters with Derek urging us on. For those of you who are wondering what was happening, it wasn't a punch up but a Mess game. In those days, what happened in the mess, stayed in the mess. There are lots more stories of our Regiment, While at the Dorf the Sgts Mess turning out to kick us out of the NAAFI when we were having a Rave!!!. Don't Forget the visits to Gifforn? or the visit of the Canadian Royal Dragoons, great days and memories. "Spectemur Agendo"   John Matthew

  10. Yes John, I remember well the antics on mess nights. Mess nights were compulsory not just during Jim Clark's reign but always. Some of the games we played were 'Cock Fighting' ( nothing to do with poultry or genitals) ' Jousting' and diving through the barrier .I don't remember what that was called..Drinking there- after until all hours and then appearing on CO's parade next morning with monumental hangovers. By the way you might think it was rough in Jim Clark's day, but in Skip Edwards day ....Ooh  my God. . As you say great days and great memories . I think I've still got a hangover from then. Paddy

  13. And me Paddy, remember those games, the one I only played once was where a blanket was put over the door frame, and you had to dive through into whatever the perverts had rigged up on the other side. And all that in your No 1 dress. It was really rough in Skips days, many black eyes and limping members were to be seen on Saturday mornings.Cock fighting was practically "civilized".And the "Pokey dice"game - you know, first winner chooses drink(s)(mixed)(nobbled)second winner pays ---------and the poor mug who wins the third time DRINKS!!!!!!Like Paddy get a hangover just thinking about it.(Strangely enough, if I remember correctly the game was called "True Blue!!!!!!)
