Thanks to you all for the welcome messages. I actually was not a Royal but a member of the Royals REME LAD. As a National Serviceman, I served with you as the REME armourer from 1961 to 1962 at the Ipoh camp, Malaya. I think that this gives me enough browny points to be a member of this web site. I have fond memories of this period of my life.
It was Sgt Happs (Fred). Tended to have a bark worse than his bite. Even the officers tended to give him a wide berth. He knew his job though and I would have been comfortable being in a war zone with him. He left in early 1962 and S/Sgt Roberts took over. It was ironic that we both met in the REME demob center at Arborfield in June1962 and I was demobbed the day before him. Me after 2 years and Fred after 22 years.
