Stan asked me to send the following
Sadly, Ex Boy Soldier Tony Watts, from the good old Wesendorf days passed away yesterday 8th November, 2008
There were only ever 4 'Royals' Boys at Wesendorf, myself (Stan) Jim Meike, Tony Watts and Pat Burgess. Jim Meikle and myself are now the only two left!
Being a 'Royals' Boy was a tough act to follow!
For example: If a Boy was caught smoking at Wesendorf it was an instant 7days Jankers!!!!!! - I think I Blancoed Dixey Lewis's web belt more times than his own Batman!
On a more positive note, we had to report at 11am daily to the cookhouse where Dixey gave us a cheese sandwich and a cup of cocoa - to the envy of the rest of the regiment I might add!
Tony was found dead in his car after telling his wife he was going out for a while.
I hope to be able to attend Tony's funeral as a Royals/TRBL standard bearer.
Tony lived in Rochester, Kent.
If anyone has Jim Lees's email address, would they please forward this to him.
As for the above picture, which I took in 2007 - Cheers TONY!
Stan and Terry Whitworth
Dear all, I cannot tell you how sad I am to hear this news. Although I never served with Tony Gail & I got to know him & his wife at the Royals Band reunions that Ron Darling organised. Tony was a true Royal Dragoon and he will be sadly missed. Jim & Gail Lees.
ReplyDeleteCorrect me,a senile old man with a short memory, wasn't Kevin Alexander, Jim Heath at the Dorf "C" Sqn?
ReplyDeleteYes,sad news indeed,I knew Tony Watts well, did'nt realize he was a boy soldier though, sympathy to his family.

Don
Don,
ReplyDeleteYour not getting mixed up with Tony's namesake are you? There were two Watts' in the Band (HQ) Pete Watts joined shortly after Tony Watts in Herford. Tony made it to man-service just before me which means he would have been somewhere between 69 - 70 years-of-age. Pete Watts is still with us and was the Trumpeter on the Sub Repulse. Pete Watts lives in the USA.
Stan
Stan,
ReplyDeleteYou could be right, will try and check it out.
