Calamintha nepeta.

try this on your allotment John and you others in your flower beds, The Lesser calamint. botanic:   Calamintha nepeta.as youcan guess it smells like a strong mint  (  Might work in Pimms, I don't know ) it flowers from July though Sept   and it attracts masses of honey & bumble bees best in a group  toward the front of the bed. &  no the cats don't lie in it.

  5. I,ve got a big pot of english mint in the greenhouse, and I like to make mint sauce with the lamb.I find that if you plant it in the garden you end up with a complete garden of just MINT!!!!Dunno if mine is the Lesser calamint botanic,Calamintha nepete(sounds a bit rude)but it sure tastes and smells good, great in the potatoes, and fine in the Pimms. My greenhouse is mainly herbs anyway, but the tomatoes are now coming onto the table!
Hope your search in the garden centre(Red Lion)was successfull.

  6. Don english mint is Mentha spicata, if you know a landscape gardener scrounge a large tree container sink it in a part of the garden and plant your mint in it you should have no problem with it spreading. Catmint is Nepeta cataria. whereas Calaminta nepeta used to be known, and sometimes still is as Satureja ,in someways they are simular to each other I have a place for all of them in my Hort. NB the Germans the ones who bombed our chippy, frown upon us using mint sauce on our lamb & new pots.in their ignorance they only know the peppermint there is of course about 40 variations of these plants .Frank

  8. I have always planted my mint in a big plastic bucket so that it doe's not creep all over the garden.

  9. I once had a garden where I planted the mint in a corner, when I moved out every time you cut the grass you smelt like the mint sauce!!!!!

  12. Frank,
I know about the wild Thyme, the sea tang is a new one on me,I do know that in the old days in my home sea tang was put on the fields as dung,so may well have been eaten by the sheep and lambs.
Now Mary had a little lamb
    She also had a bear
I've often seen our Mary's lamb
    But never seen her bear!

  15. I had this sent to me
    AAADD
Recently i was diagnosed with AAADD or age activated attention deficit disorder, this is how manifests itself. I decided to wash my car , As i started tiwards the garage, i spotted the mail on the hall table , perhaps i should go through the mail before i wash the car i lay the car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the bin and notice the the bin i8s full . so i put the bills back on the table and take out the the first bin since i`m going to be near the post box when i take out the bin, i may as well pay the bills first i see my chequebook on the table, but there is only one cheque left , my new cheque bookis in my desk in the study so i go to my desk in the study so i go to desk, where i find a bottle of juice that i had been drinking
I`m going to look for my cheques, but first i need to put the juice to oneside so that i dont accidenttallyknock it over , but the the juice is getting warm and should be put in the frigerator. hHeading to wards the kitchen with the juice , a vase of flowers on thetable catches my eye they need to be watered i set the juice down on the tableand findmy glasses ( for which i had been searching all morning). i had better put them back on my desk, but first i`m going to water the flowers i setthe glasses back down on the the table . fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote control unit i should put it back in the liiving room where it belongs, but first i`ll water the flowers i splash some water on the flowers but most of it spills on the floor so i put the remote control back down on the table and get some paper towels to wipe up the spill then i head down the hall trying to remember what i was planning to do .
At the end of the day , the car isn`t washed the bills aren`t paid there is a warm bottle of juice sitting on the table the flowers aren`t waterd there is still only one cheque in my cheque book i can`t findthe remote control i can`tfind my glasses and i dont reemember what i did with the car keys! i`m trying to figure out why nothing got done today , it`squitebaffing ,because i know i was busy all day long and i`m really tired i know this is a seriouse problem and i`ii try to get some helpfor it , but first i`ll check my email
    ring any bells frank don

  16. I now have the habit of if I decide to do something I go straight to the job and nothing gets in my way,no stopping on the way,no gossiping en route. But I admit now and again I go down in the celler, get there, look around, and ask "what did I come down here for"?
And believe it or not, pills I do not need to take!

  17. Yes John I have heard of this infliction the treatment is simple you just learn to deligate all these
chores, & when they forget it is nt you & you can then smile understandenly & inform them that there is no cure for BSE.there are worse me ns illnesses, take the prostate gland for instance.
when you finally go to to see the Doc you have to get past the receptionist first .
she then asks what is wrong with you within earshot of a crowded surgery!
I remember well going to see my GP in Stur & hearing an 86 year old retired Diary man being
    given this treatment.
"yes Sir what are you seeing the doctor for today
" There is something wrong with my dick ,"he replied She,the receptionist, went ape in a big way
and admonished the poor old man with "you have caused some embarrassment to this room full of people saying things like that ! well you asked me what was wrong & I told you sez he.
well you should of told me that there was something wrong with your ear or something & then discussed it further with the Doctor she replied.
the old Boy walked out and waited several minutes & re-entered.
the receptionist smiled smugly & asked yes
there is something wrong with my ear he stated
and what is wrong with your ear, sir?
I cant piss out of it he replied. laughter all round.
