Sex
Got up this morning ,went to the kitchen & called for the woman of the House !no response, she was out milking her chicken or whatever she do'se to them! so I 'phoned my sister to ask how one makes a cup of tea.& decided that it was to difficult and waited for her to return& cook my breakfast,after 45 mins mein Frau comes in & says that it is international womans day & she wanted the day off. time for the riot act to be read again ,& to remind her about her promise to love honour & obey .OBEY not E BAY you deaf old moo ! I blame this onto giving the woman permission to vote it should be resinded. look what has happend to the world since they had it nothing but strikes & strife we have lost our coal ,steel & car industries ,& they smoke & wear trousers! and now they want days off what next I ask .from tomorrow she will be back to wearing P O W on her back that ' larn her. even if her mother did come from Colditz.
By-the-way I don't want this to get to her so keep stumm (looking at Johnie ) he bubbled me to Del Boy a couple of days ago .if she finds out god help me.

Michael Reagan
If you go to the BBC News Homepage today there is an article and audio slideshow regarding Michael Reagan. He is an American artist, and former Vietnam soldier, who is now drawing portraits of American, British and Canadian soldiers who have fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan. He then gives the portraits to their families free of charge.He rises about 3 am and draws 2 a day. He has drawn 2000 so far. I urge you to visit the site. It made me humble and tearful.

Anyone know the whereabouts of these two gentlemen
Now I’m retired and time on my hands I have started having a clear out. I have come across 2 old letters from army friends of Jim’s. I was wondering if you would put them onto The site as I am not very sure of doing this. 1 is from a 6808 Cpl McLaren CD (Doug), and the address on the letter is HQ Sqn Royal Dragoons Hobart Bks BFPO (not sure) 41 or 61. The 2nd is 23955092 Tpr Moon, Q.M. Group, HQ Sqn, Royals, BFPO 41. (I now think that the 1st must be 41). The 2nd letter was written on 31.5.65. His first name is Bob and he talks about Micky Wilson, Paddy Snell & Frank Hendrey. I hope this is making sense and that you will be able to do this for me. It would be good if they could get to the reunion and a surprise for Jim, this was sent to me by Jim's wife asking if I would put it up on the BB for her, any help I am sure would be appreciated.

THE LAST POST
The Last Post .........
If any of you have ever been to a military funeral in which The Last Post was played; this brings out a new meaning of it.
Here is something everyone should know. Until I read this, I didn't know, but I checked it out and it's true:
We have all heard the haunting song, 'The Last Post.' It's the song that gives us the lump in our throats and usually tears in our eyes.
But, do you know the story behind the song? If not, I think you will be interested to find out about its humble beginnings.
Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the American Civil War, when Union Army Captain Robert Ellicombe was with his men near Harrison's Landing in Virginia . The Confederate Army was on the other side of the narrow strip of land.
During the night, Captain Ellicombe heard the moans of a soldier who lay severely wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment.
When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the soldier was dead.
The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted in the Confederate Army.
The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.
The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral.
The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate.
But, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician.
The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform.
This wish was granted.
The haunting melody, we now know as 'The Last Post' used at military funerals was born.
The words are:
Day is done.
Gone the sun.
From the lakes
From the hills.
From the sky.
All is well.
Safely rest.
God is nigh.
Fading light.
Dims the sight.
And a star.
Gems the sky.
Gleaming bright.
From afar.
Drawing nigh.

I too have felt the chills while listening to 'The Last Post' but I have never seen all the words to the song until now. I didn't even know there was more than one verse . I also never knew the story behind the song and I didn't know if you had either so I thought I'd pass it along.
I now have an even deeper respect for the song than I did before.
Remember Those Lost and Harmed While Serving Their Country.
Also Remember Those Who Have Served And Returned; and for those presently serving in the Armed Forces.

Humorous military commands
It would be good, I think, if members would share some of their humorous memories, especially commands given to them by NCOs.
I remember a Sergeant, in one of the tank regiments, who was the Sergeant of Holding Troop at Carlisle in 1952; while I was being inspected on parade, he stood behind me and said, ' Does it hurt, does it hurt?' I replied, 'No sir.' He then said, ' Well it ought to, I'm standing on it, get your hair cut.' On another occasion he said, ' They have swindled you lad, they have sold you grey boot polish, get your boots clean.'
My first 24 hour guard duty was on Christmas Day; many lads were off on leave when the few left in Holding Troop paraded on the day before Christmas Day. The custom was for the troop Sergeant to give a verbal report to the Duty Officer with regard to the number of men on parade, how many were sick etc. When the above mentioned Sergeant made his report he called out in stentorian voice, words to this effect: ' 5 present, 20 sick, 15 absent without leave, 10 on leave and a very merry Christmas, sir.' The officer took it in good part.
The next day, Christmas Day, the 24 hour guarded was interesting to put it mildly. When the Duty Officer came to inspect the guard he arrived on a bicycle singing at the top of his voice a song which contained the words' The cow kicked Nelly in the belly.' (That's all I can recall.) He then fell off his bike in front of the guard which was standing to attention. As the day wore on, lunchtime arrived but no lunch was sent down from the cook house, after a long wait a Corporal was sent up to the cook house to ascertain the situation; he reported back that the Christmas dinner had all gone and some sandwiches would be sent down to the Guard Room. A Christmas to forget.

accident on Princess Highway Downunder,
