Don, last time I saw Harry was at the Hyde Park Remembrance Sunday circa 2002-3-4 We managed to track him down living somewhere south east of Frankfurt. Unfortunately since Pete Everson (also living in Germany) past away we have not heard from him. I've got some analog video of Sgt Stone at the parade and in the mess at Knightsbridge with his daughter? so will try to get this converted and posted later. I don't know if you knew about his past history with the Royals but just for the record I'll have a go here: (Better told by Ron Darling)
Harry was wounded in Libya (bullet to the stomach?) and due to troop shortages, also took part in the Sicily landings. I remember Harry telling me about the friends he had lost, not from any action but in transferring from troopship to landing craft. Apparently the rope netting not being long enough for them to get into the craft, whereby several of his mates fell off the end & into the sea, never to resurface! During the Sicily victory parade, Harry is reported to have been one of those leading the parade playing the Bagpipes! although he's not scottish but in fact comes from Southampton. He also took part in the D-Day landings and fought alongside the Royals from Normandy to Denmark. It was from here that he then transferred from the 'Fusiliers' to the 'Royals'. The above photo showing Sgt Stone shortly before being demobbed in Malaya early 1962. Could you or anyone else living in Germany please try to make contact with him or find out what has happened as I don't speak German and the telephone line goes dead when we try to speak in English!
