Go to youtube....type: Dave Meldrews memories to see 4/7th RDG band members to dee ex Royals PAT BURGESS SID SKEWS TAFFY WILLIAMS PETE EVERSON ? HARMAN AND bandmaster CHARLIE BRIGGS. There are also two others that went there at amalagamation time but cant remember them.
There are also some other Tankie pictures on the 4/7th around amalgamation time or just after.
And lets not forget Jim Meikle and Jo Fisher who went to the 2nd Dragoons (Scots Greys) Scots Dragoon Guards. Both were featured in the origional 1971 Number one hit "Amazing Grace" and Jo took over leadership of the Band when their bandmaster suffered a serious heart attack, just prior to their 1st tour of the USA and Australia. I've got a photo of Jo leading the band out of Edinburgh Castle. Unfortunately, Jo passed away in 1998. I will post a tribute video to Jo shortly.
ReplyDeleteOne way or another, members of The Royal Dragoons certainly made their mark in history!!!!!!
Thanks Stan. I am going to make my mark in History as the Last Royal Dragoon. I am rehearsing for this.
ReplyDeleteOne of the others was Geof Winn He went on emalgamation But spent most of his time in the guard house could not settle missed his mates to much.
ReplyDeleteMost of you old fellas on here were never in the RHG/D when we amalgamated and I was only in the Royals Band from 65 to 69 with a year at Kneller Hall but even so I miss the Royals more than I do the Blues and Royals. You would have thought that the Royals being the first Dragoons would have carried on and the 4/7th RDG would have been sacrificed.
ReplyDeletein my other life I seem to remember Charlie Briggs as the bandmaster of theRTR Cambria Band in paderborn before it was disbanded ( not a pun )
ReplyDeletehe then went to be the range officer somewhere (sorry I've forgotten where )
in Scotland.
Charlie Briggs went to Kirkcudbright, where he was the Adjutant.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever see him he owes me one pound fifty which he borrowed while we were at Kneller hall. If he doesnt pay me I will tell all about Zara Bowness, Director of Music WRAC Band.
