Can anyone provide some info regarding this photo - obviously some important parade but where & when & does anyone recognise the Corporal? Regards Bandrat
No idea, but using some logic, it's before my time, so pre-1963 (we never used gaiters that I can recall apart from training period). If it's an important parade, we would have had Nr 2 dress normally, otherwise working dress. Going from the buildings, the only place I can think of in Germany with such brick buildings would be Berlin (Smuts, Spandau was made up of such buildings for example) but I think the style is more British than German! The weather could be both! If it's the Royals, I would tip somewhere like Tidworth. Why the Cpl. (who I don't recognize) is squeezed in between Tps. I can't imagine! Let us into the secret.........
More deductions, Sherlock - I see shadows, the sun is out, the trees appear to have full foliage (leaves are abundant) - a nice day, so it can't be difficult to recall when there was a nice Spring/early summer day in Chester in 1950! Now you see why I went to the IC!
Cannot make out the cap badge or shoulder flashes? When did the Royals introduce brass chevrons? The buildings could be Tidworth (similar railings), but I think they are too close together. The weapons and wearing of the lanyards are correct. Can't help. TIS
It is said that trying to solve puzzles helps the brain from deteriorating. Well,we are given enough puzzles to solve on this and the other site.As iwmpop says , this 'photo must be before '63 when we got No. 2 dress.and battledress went out. Also, as he says it could not have been Chester for all the time we were there we were up to our knees in snow. The annoying thing to me is that I remember the Cpl's face and the chap on the left, but who, where and when? No idea. Paddy
Yep! But there ain't no lace curtains at the windows, so it can't be Germany! I don't know the habits during the Nat Service period, are there any indications from that aspect? Why doesn't "Bandrat" just tell us the truth...it's he - himself - the Corporal!
Hi all, The photograph was taken from an album given to the Household Cavalry Museum by Captain SEM Bradish-Ellames & Captain NH Matterson & covers the period 1951-1953. It is certainly the Royals & the Corporal is wearing a King's Crown version of the monkey on his arm.
I think it was Tidorth 1954 in preparation of presentation of the new Guidon, we were stationed in Mathew Barracks at the time a hutted camp but used one of the main barrack squares for our rehearsals
