My understanding is that Tony qualified for this award after only a few days service in Aden? More importantly, has Tony's Next-Of-Kin received the Elizabeth Cross yet? if not then why not? Stan
Stan, I think it took a bit longer than that for us to be qualified , Arrieved in Aden November 59 we did'nt actually get the medal until early 60s , Re The Elizabeth Cross it would nice , But reading the qualifying agenda ,I will ask the Association Secretary Paul Stretton if its worth following up for the family.
Stan I was s talking to Sylvia about this and the problem is "THEY" say is that Tony died by an "ACCIDENT" not "SHOT" or BLOWN UP",so does not qualify for the medal, she has someone near her place that is moving hell on earth for her to try and get it,He died whilst in SERVICE and should get it..
The Next of Kin of eligible personnel whose deaths fall into the following categories are to be recognised:
Those who died from whatever cause whilst serving on a medal earning operation. Medal earning operations are those in which deployed personnel received a Campaign Medal, General Service Medal or Operational Service Medal which demonstrated the risk and rigour involved. Operations where a UN, NATO or other international body or other nations' campaign medal was accepted for wear, in the absence of a UK medal also qualify
Not before time, I hope Sylvia gets the apology she deserves from the cowboys that look after themselves but not the Armed Forces. "SPECTEMUR AGENDO"
