Can anyone out there remember the name of the SSM who took over "A" sqadron when SSM Danny Bradley left the Royals to join (I think) The London Yeomanry.
I've been racking my brains - what is left of them- on this one ,but to no avail. I think I was ERE at the time.I don't think that it was Phill Phillips. He became SSM 'C' in Wesendorf and SSM 'HQ' in Herford. It might have been Ernie Vowles though I remember he was 'HQ' before becoming RSM. Clif Crab was SSM 'A' in Tidworth and a little before. Paddy
Brian Philips took over A Sqn as SSM whilst Bradley became RSM of the County of London Yeomanry. He returned to the Royals as RSM in 1961. Regards Don Mallinder
Thanks " you orrible lot" The problem has finally been solved, It was SSM Brian Phillips and his name has rankeled me for a long time. A personel thing that can now be forgotten. Regards to you all Catalkoy (Bryan) TRNC.
SSM Phillips was known squeegee by the lads in Asqn, does anyone one know why he came to be called that, I know that he left us in Sharjah and we ended up with the Watorski.
Danny Bradley joined Sharpshooters early 59. I had joined them in oct58 along with ssm Fletcher.Ihad previosly been troop cpl 3 troop A sqn and seeing your name Bryan were you in 5 troop Asqn with cpl Coan and was it you that I let you borrow my Blues to go home in on leave. At that time it was SQMS Brennan so did he replace Danny Bradley?
I was A squadron in Wesendorf but I can't remember Danny Bradley going to Herford in 1958/59 and I have this vague idea that SQMS Brennan took over and then when he left the army he became a Queens Messenger. I moved to HQ Squadron in 1959 and I think Bradish Ellames was Sqn Ldr of A sqn then.
Was that not Cliff Crabbe?
ReplyDeleteJim H asks what year are we into and he remembers Cliff Crabbe but says he thinks he left in about 64?
ReplyDeleteSSM Phillips?

I'm having a problem trying to identify ' BRIAN' Phillips. I know of only one Phillips and who was always called 'Phil'.
