Lisa welcome to the site. I knew, and was a friend of Ron. We joined the army at roughly the same time. Looking back at my Regimental records, I notice we were Promoted L/Cpl at the same time. I also notice that the following year he had been reduced to trooper!!. Ron was not one to be in trouble, and certainly not for his capability as a soldier. I suggest you ask Derek Leese, why it happened, because he is the only one of our era who would know. Regards Don 190
Hi! Lisa. Being one of the 'Oldies' here of course I knew Ron quite well. As a matter of fact we knocked around together for a while at Wolfenbuttle. I've got a vague memory of him being part of a group of us travelling to Berlin in '48/49 to visit 'A' Sqn. As happens we went our different ways and only met up at intervals over the years. The last time I met Ron was in 1970 just before or just after I got married and he presented me with a Carving set as a Wedding gift which I still have. I've racked my brains to fathom where that meeting was but to no avail. I was at Kirkcudbright at the time so it must have been on one of my visits to the regiment in London , but I wouldn't swear to it. Anyway ,Wekcome to the site and I hope we hear from you again.
