Trevor joined the Band in Ipoh and bought hiself out in Tidworth. Not a long stay, but the start of a long friendship, tradgicaly cut short on Mon23rd.November.Trevor,passed away, quite unexpectedly, whilst waiting to board the ferry after a trip to France. He lived in Guernsey for many years with Brigid(the girl he left the band for),son Dominic, and eventually, grandchildren, who lived net door in St Peterport. As a music teacher and semi-pro jazz musician he was welknown and respected. He ran the Island Jazz club and yearly Festival.A great guy I was proud to call my friend. Ken Eatch.
Afraid I did not know him, condolances to all his family.

Strange how so many bandsmen came from Guernsey 'Titch' Del-a-Hey, now in Canada, was another clarinetist who joined from Guernsey. (don't know if I spelt his name right) Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't Trevor play the drums in the marching band at Ipoh? Being a Trumpeter, my memory is limited to those who served in the brass section! Except, of course, for Ron Darling who is someone I shall never forget! Nonetheless, if Ken Etch and Trevor Cleveland were demobbed Tidworth '63, at least we have one thing in common - I was demobbed from Tidworth in Aug '63 after serving the Regiment for 8 years!
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to Brigid, Dominic and all the grandchildren.
Least we forget
Stan
Stan,
ReplyDeleteYes,we had two De-la-Hayes in the Regt at one time, not sure if both were in the Band though?

Jim. Will be in CD for New Year. Will pop in for a chat. Got our eye on a house in The Gables, near Urr Valley Hotel. Contracted here in Turkey until 31 Jul 10. Then got the possibility of a job in Lisbon, Portugal, till Apr 11. That's it then, otherwise I will be dragged out in a coffin. The sale of our house in Watford is almost completed and once money in the bank, can make a move for the CD house. If all goes ahead Olive will move back to CD in early Jan/Feb 10. I will then commute from Turkey/Portugal monthly (Jesus I sound like a Japanese tourist)
ReplyDeleteStan,Trevor and Alan Warwick got demobbed on the same day in 63.Ileft in March 69 still wearing a 105 cap badge ! Regards Ken E.
ReplyDelete"delmonte" URL not showing for Trevor Cleavland (Cleveland) nor in the search area.
ReplyDeleteAs I recall, we had two 12th Lancers (not17/21st) serving in the Royals at Shorncliffe. Were you one of them? The only other Clarinetist I remember was Roger Maytum who had a new 'Yellow' Ford Consul which he 'wrote-off' in a field near Devises. Fortunately, drink drive 'scrumpy' laws were not quite so stringent as they are today! No doubt 'Zoot' had a hand in it.
We had a night out in Warmnister. We swerved to avoid adog inthe road was the story we told at the time.Anyway the car ended up on the stump of the 2nd telegraph pole we hit.Dave Craft had his arm in a sling next morning.Roger was bruised, and I was asleep in the back!We all got aroasting off George E.next day as it was a KHInspection.Roger ended up with a Ford Anglia after that. Ken E.
ReplyDeleteFrom Zoot Re Trevor Cleveland.
ReplyDeleteTrevor joined the band at Tidworht on our return to UK from Malaya. He was a clarinet player But did not serve in Malaya as the clariner section there was Jim Meikle & Pete Jury -Solos Barry Atkinson rep and the second & thirds were Maytum, Mitchell & Phil Thorne.
I think some of you may be confused with Ben Turpin, who was a euphoneum player from Alderney, who was in Malaya and ended up on percussion with myself & Tony Keys.
keep the e mails rolling
Regards "ZOOT"
