Is there any member can tell me how RSM Wotoski got his nick name the ( Wop). An old Royal called Edward Ashton (Ted) was asking if i Knew Ted served 47-49.
sorry i cant help you there but i may do with the spelling of his name i am pretty sure it is spelt WARTOSKI my sincere apologies if this is incorrect jim harvey
I can remember him as rsm in 67 and he was always referred to as the WOP best people to ask are the senior mess members of that time I,m sure somebody will know
I was a member of the Wo's and Sgt's mess at that time and a I believe his nick name was because he was of Polish decent. After WW11 it was common to call Poles Wop's. Great guy and terrific RSM
Gentlemen you will find that Don has spelt the Wops name correctly as you will see if you have a Royals journal, I remember all too well, he put me on gaurd duty on my 21st Birthday, The B******D.
My understanding of WOP ,was a label given to the Italians in WW2 Or foreign subjects.those of a certain age will relate to.OHMS Only Hindus Muslims Siks .excused church Parade Delmonte
WOP - (Itilian) This slur was used by Welsh Assembly Member Alun Cairns on a live broadcast from Radio Cymru on Friday 13 June 2008, when he referred to the Italian Euro 2008 football team as "greasy wops". As a consequence, he resigned from office.
Wotoski was my troop sergent in '' C'' squadron in Germany in 1954, April 1956 I was posted to Bovington, at the same time he was made up to S.Q.M.S. he looked after his men. It was a privilege to serve with him Jim
