Yesterday I made a phone call to the manager of the Fradley Arms with regards to the function room for the reunion, I was informed that the Fradley Arms has been refurbished and that now the function room that we used last year does not now exist, there is now only a small meeting room and the rest by what I can make out is incorporated in to the bar area, the manager has told me that for us to have our reunion their this year he will make sure that the area next to the meeting room will be reserved for us and that the buffet will be laid out in the meeting room, Now I do not know at this time how or whether it will be possible to do a raffle with other people being in close proximity to the area set aside for us, I myself feel a bit dubious as to how this will work out but after talking to Denis and Derek we are of the opinion that at this late time there is not a lot that we can do to find anything in that area to hold the reunion this year but maybe if it did not work out for us at the Fradley Arms this year that we should look for some other venue for next year., now I will leave it to you all to make your own comments and opinions and post them onto the site, The manager tells me that he will do what he can to make sure we are well catered for and that he will keep the price to somewhere near the same as last year for us.

John i dont see a problem remember last year the room was not large enough to make things comfy was a bit over crowded.
ReplyDeletei am sure the manager will sort it all out on the day
regards derek leese
John -- As you know, I agreed to run a Raffle this year. If there are problems and this is not possible, maybe you could just add a "premium" on the Buffet like last year, as a donation to your charity. Just a thought.

This is happening all the time nowadays John. The Bands reunion in Cheltenham is also booked yearly in advance. Only this year we were told (at the very last minute) that due to a glitch in their new computer system they'd lost our booking details and all rooms had now gone! Fortunately for us we managed to find an equally suitable alternative nearby. However, you're unlikely to find an alternative that's also close to the NMA so stick with the Fradley Arms. Just send out a recognisance patrol to mark out your area before hand! Stan.

Doug, If we are not able to do a Raffle I will put it to the vote which charity to collect donations for this year and what premium that we should add to the Buffet.

Thank you John. I!ll leave it in your capable hands.

I can not see why their should be any reason for not holding a Raffle, so long has you state what Charity the Raffle money is going to you can sell the tickets to any one in the room.I'm sure most people would give to it. By the way if any one wants a copy of the rules and regulations regarding the holding of raffles you can get it on the net.

With regard to the venue lets see how it goes,as one or to have already said there are plenty of other places to look at in the area.

John ,as you state it could be a little late in the day to change the venue, but us ROYALS have had harder things to cope with, and no real problems, the more people in the room the more cash we can gather,we do this with some of the "DO`s" we have in the North Staffs Branch...........
ReplyDeleteOn Sunday when we have our Memorial Service, we will be joined by appx twenty-five Royal Horse Guards, who also celebrate 350 yrs,I can not see any problem with this and we are now the same Regiment, also we have fought many battles with side by side..also the should be bringing with the TWO trumpeters so that sounds good to me..
