Yep, we were getting ready for PRE I think and he was carrying out a Commanders Functional Test (CFT) when he checked the fan belt tension with the engine running......Not a good idea. Tiger should know the details as he was Lofty's driver. 118
Many names here I recall. As I shall be off to the mountains will buzz you when I get back,in the meantime wish you all,and your families,a Happy New Year, with prosperity and good health! Take care. --------- Don
I remember that incident well, I was wandering around to the LAD from B Sqn hanger and as I passed the Recce troop hanger the poor guy came out with his hand in an awful mess. Steve
I remember the Lofty Elmslie very well, Tiger & I had just finished washing the engine out and as we were standing with engine in idle mode, Lofty pointed out the fan belt was loose, poking it with his fingers. Suddenly poking to hard put fingers between belt and you can imagine the rest. Lost 3 Fingers I recall, in fact me & Tiger retrieved 2 from bottom of engine.
