Christmas Greetings

To all members: I do trust that you are having a peaceful and restful Christmas Day. May this coming New Year be one of happiness for you and your loved ones. I realise that at 'our age' we venture into the autumn of our life but I put my trust in the One who said, ' Because I live, you will live also.' The best, I feel, is yet to be for you and for me.

  1. to all Yes I had a great Christmas day didnot start to good because I had to shovel ice to get the Taxi moving from its parking spot, but after three lunch time jobs, was home too christmas lunch cooked by my son Matthew with a little bit of help from Bela, we sat down about three o'clock.then spent the rest of the day chilling out. I will be off to work again at noon until seven p.m.. However I do have tomorrow off, so if my own car starts we might get to take the dogs for a christmas run in the woods . If not they have to make do in the garden because our road is a sheet of ice and you can't walk properly on the pavements and the road is not much better.Helene

Long day yesterday 11.00 until seven thirty, non stop all day but it will pay the bills so mustn't grumble. No one else is up yet, Matthew is off upto Newcastle Wednesday to do some networking and get more work has been let down over fifteen week tour. Home Friday I hope

  5. ... and just in case you're thinking of getting in a Taxi over the festive season:

In my area Muslim taxi drivers refuse to carry dogs in their cabs as it's against their religion. (Blind dogs an exception so I'm told) And despite their nationwide poster campaign denouncing "Christmas as evil" it hasn't stop them charging double time over the Christmas period! My son-in-law and his wife came to visit us and she sat in the back of the taxi going home while he walked behind with the dog on a lead! --- Now how's about that for a double whammy eh?

Just can't stop laughing these days particularly when you read in the newspapers about Christians being denied their human rights --- Counsellor Gary McFarlane lost his appeal against dismissal after he refused to give sex therapy to a homosexual couple and nurse Shirley Chaplin lost a discrimination case after she was moved to a back-office-job because she wore a crucifix!

No doubt about it, one law for them and another for us in this multicultural society of ours!

  6. Never mind leaving the handbrake off. I once had a "Standard" VW beetle with cable brakes and used to commute in it daily from Elsen Heide to Detmold by the time I got to DT the brakes were frozen solid, I soon converted it to hydraulic frank

  8. Ah handbrake, yes indeed. I remember taking my driving test in a vehicle that didn't have a handbrake, not one that worked anyway. The RE driving examiner then decided to do an emergency stop up this very steep hill, which left me standing on the footbrake! When we got back I remember him saying that if it wasn't for my excellent "toeing and healing" then he might not have passed me!...... and that's how I got my civilian licence too. So who needs a handbrake when you’re supposed to leave your vehicle with the front wheels pointing towards the kerb anyway.

  9. Getting idle in my old age,my new car in April with automatic will not run backwards (or forward)till I put the gearbox in "D"and press the accelerator. But looking around I'd say the biggest wear on clutches is when pulling away!
    Happy motoring.

  10. Frank I take it your "VW beetle" had a crash gearbox and no synchromesh too? I remember visiting that factory back in the 1950s and walking over that bridge (before the Berlin wall) where bomb craters could still be seen. The overhead conveyor system and VW body panels being punched out nearby. My, what an achievement they've made over the past 50 odd years. It's now said that there are more VW's in the world than people in France!

Snow's all gone here in the West Midlands and now very mild.

  11. Bags of snow still here, and I had one of the first VWs,the one with the split rear window, and I drove it 171,000 kilometers before I traded it in,and it still went(and sounded)like a bomb! And at maximum 80-100KMH thought I was speeding in those days!
    Oh Happy days!
