WELCOME PETER WINFIELD TO THE BB

I spent part of my National Service with the Royal Dragoons in Malaya in1960-61 after being transfered from the 13/18th Hussars when they returned home late 1960 to take up a tour in Germany after they had retrained in Chieftains from the Saladins and Saracens.

This is some of the message that Peter sent to me, I am sure that he will find quite a few comrades from his time in the regiment.

Welcome Peter

  4. Hi Peter -- Looking for Tony Law (13/18 Hussar) Did my training with him Sept. 1959 in Barnard Castle. Just missed him in Malaya late 1960.

    Regards. Doug Best.

  5. Hi Doug.... Didn't get to Barnard Castle myself until Dec. 1959 for basic training then shipped out to Singapore in March 1960. Stayed with the 13/18 in Singapore at Nee Soon garrison until they shipped out for Germany in Dec 1960 when I was transfered to The Royal Dragoons. Sorry Tony Law doesn't ring any bells.
    Regards Pete Winfield

  6. Doug, I have been meaning to ask when did you join up and did you go to Carlisle, as I think you might have been the intake after me, I went to Barnard castle after to do driver training,
I had a good mate of mine who was on the same intake as me and he went on to be a driving instructor, his name was Alan Knight and I was wondering if you knew him while you were at Barnard Castle, I have only just recently managed to get in contact with him and I found that he was only living 10miles away for the last forty eight years.
