Doncaster Rugby Club Under 13s
Help For Heroes - Christmas Rugby Tournament
Before I go into details let me explain some background to the event. We have started to raise money for our end of season tour to help those lads who find it difficult to attend such trips due to costs. This is always a difficult but rewarding process as I am sure you will know from your own experience. However during our first fund raising meeting we decided unanimously that we should also set aside some specific events to raise money for other causes outside of our own little world. We quickly decided that we should nominate Help For Heroes as our charity for 2009/2010. There were a few reasons for this;
Firstly a Doncaster Rugby Club ex-junior section player, Ben Parkinson, was been badly injured whilst serving with 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (follow these links to read more about Ben’s story and his unflinching bravery:
http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/community/Paratrooper-Ben-went-to-Afghanistan.3246302.jp and http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1203202/Horrifically-injured-army-hero-Ben-Parkinson-confounds-doctors-learning-speak-again.html
Secondly our head coach served with The Blues and Royals for 22 years. The Blues and Royals are part of the Household Cavalry who are currently deployed in Afghanistan.
Thirdly we also have some connections with London Irish, through ex-players of both Doncaster and London Irish, whose nominated charity is also Help For Heroes and we hope to have some support from them for this event.
So what are we trying to do? Our intention with this tournament is to have some really good games of open running rugby but with the added and important aim of raising some serious money for Help For Heroes. We have registered the event with H4H and our reference number is 20091109-4453-4130.
The ways in which we aim to raise money are as follows:
Try Sponsorship – With the attached form we would like all players participating in the event to approach their friends, family, parents’ friends, parents’ work colleagues, etc to gain sponsorship for each try that your team scores in the event. Please be aware that the refereeing style will be to encourage try scoring by all teams! If you require help with printing the forms then please let me know and we can work together to make suitable arrangements.
Collections – We will have Help For Heroes collection buckets on the day and you and your supporters will be suitably hassled and harried to make cash donations as the event goes along.

RIP----MAJ LANE
I must sadly report the passing of 496966 Major Brian (“Bronco”) LANE who died yesterday afternoon (10 November 2009) at Frimley Park Hospital aged 76 years, he had bravely been fighting cancer for some time. Brian Lane served between December 1949 - October 1986, initially with the Grenadier Guards and then The Blues and Royals where he achieved a Late Entry Commission. Those who met him, I’m sure will agree, that a more professional, imposing and passionate soldier, Warrant Officer and Commissioned Officer, you could not find. The thoughts and condolences of the Association go to his wife, daughters, family and friends at this difficult time. Funeral details will be released when known.
THE BLUES AND ROYALS REGIMENTAL COLLECT
O Lord Jesus Christ who by the Holy Apostle has called us to put on the armour of God and to take the sword of the spirit, give thy grace we pray thee, to the Blues and Royals that we may fight manfully under thy banner against all evil, and waiting on thee to renew our strength, may mount up with wings as eagles, in thy name, who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

deck of cards
Please do not delete! You will be glad you didn't.
Deck of Cards
It was quiet that day, the guns and the mortars, and land mines for some reason hadn't been heard.
The young soldier knew it was Sunday, the holiest day of the week.
As he was sitting there, he got out an old deck of cards and laid them out across his bunk.
Just then an army sergeant came in and said, 'Why aren't you with the rest of the platoon?'
The soldier replied, 'I thought I would stay behind and spend some time with the Lord.'
The sergeant said, 'Looks to me like you're going to play cards.'
The soldier said, 'No, sir. You see, since we are not allowed to have Bibles or other spiritual books in this country,
I've decided to talk to the Lord by studying this deck of cards.'
The sergeant asked in disbelief, 'How will you do that?'
'You see the Ace, Sergeant? It reminds me that there is only one God.
The Two represents the two parts of the Bible, Old and New Testaments
The Three represents the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost.
The Four stands for the Four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John .
The Five is for the five virgins there were ten but only five of them were glorified.
The Six is for the six days it took God to create the Heavens and Earth.
The Seven is for the day God rested after making His Creation.
The Eight is for the family of Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives -- the eight people God spared from the flood that destroyed the Earth.
The Nine is for the lepers that Jesus cleansed of leprosy He cleansed ten, but nine never thanked Him.
The Ten represents the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on tablets made of stone.
The Jack is a reminder of Satan, one of God's first angels, but he got kicked out of heaven for his sly and wicked ways and is now the joker of eternal hell.
The Queen stands for the Virgin Mary.
The King stands for Jesus, for he is the King of all kings.
When I count the dots on all the cards, I come up with 365 total, one for every day of the year..
There are a total of 52 cards in a deck; each is a week - 52 weeks in a year.
The four suits represent the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
Each suit has thirteen cards -- there are exactly thirteen weeks in a quarter.
So when I want to talk to God and thank Him, I just pull out this old deck of cards and they remind me of all that I have to be thankful for.'
The sergeant just stood there. After a minute, with tears in his eyes and pain in his heart, he said, 'Soldier, can I borrow that deck of cards?'
Please let this be a reminder and take time to pray for all of our soldiers who are being sent away, putting their lives on the line fighting
Prayer for the Military.
Please keep the wheel rolling. It will only take a few seconds of your time, but it'll be worth it to read on....
Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them.
Bless them and their families
I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
Amen
