Hi all, Does anyone remember 'Bert' Routley? I would like to hear any anecdotes or funny stories about him. I know he joined the army in 1944 & joined the Royals soon after. He was still serving in 1969 when he was on recruiting service at Brighton. He died in Crawley, Sussex in 1985.
Yes I knew Bert quite well although I was in the Band and he was a duty man we were both in the Sgts mess,Sorry to hear he has passed on he was a nice man
Yes I knew Bert very well.My funniest episode with him was at Tidworth,he asked us to look after his dog while he went off somewhere with his wife. Now in those days we had a MQ with an open fire, and the dog loved to sit there in the evening. The dog though had one funny, and sometimes awkward habit ------ if you happened to look the dog in the eyes it would immediately hop onto your lap - with dire consequences if you had a cup of something hot in your hands! We often have a laugh over this.Dear Bert,a nice guy! ---- Don
Hi everyone, Thanks for the responses. I have Bert's Long Service Medal in my collection, which he received in 1963. I know he had some campaign medals for the Second World War but I am not sure exactly what he received.
