Thanks for the welcome to Deniss and Johnie68 and the boss effendi Derek. For Don i joined up for 5 years in early 1951, trained at Carlisle. 6 weeks later sailed from my birthplsce Liverpool on the Empire Test for the Suez Canal Zone, Balaclaver Camp Fanara. Was involved in the Ismailia battle. Iwas in 4th troop B sqn. I was a Lance Jack 3 times, bit of a naughty boy sometimes. That Stella was to blame, nice stuff though. Seen my time out in Germany, Wesendorf. Loved army life in Egypt but not in Germany. I was known as Scouse Pugh. Mike.
To Don, after 3 years in Egypt, sun sand. finishing work at dinnertime, going swimming every day. and of course drinking Stella. Germany was a different kettle of fish, too much bullsh-- .I had married a Liverpool girl at home whilst on leave from Germany and my last 6 months were spent as Canteen Cowboy. That put the top hat on things.I wanted out. I went on a pre- release course a month before demob in Oxford digged up with The Oxford and Bucks. Thats my story and im sticking with it, Effendi Mike Pugh.
