Trying to remember names. The officer is Capt. Davies( He suffered from a stutter) on his right is Ken Webster?.( Damn it I should his name) and next to him the Cpl. ? Studly?. Why this group though?. Paddy
The picture is of HQ Sqn Control Staff 1964 and they are: Back Row (left to right), Tpr. Brownless, L/Cpl Deane, Tprs Ody, Bickmore, McNicholas, Bayliss, Munro, L/Cpl Melbourne. Front Row (left to right), Cpl. Strudwick, Sgt. Webster, Capt. Davey, SSM. Titmarsh and Cpl. Jones.
Tom Ody (third from left back row) that is (elevate and traverse left...steady...on.. for you gunners) was my best mate ever. Best man at my wedding....trust him with my life etc. When I left London in 75 I lost contact with him and although I have tried all sorts I have never been able to track him down again. If anybody knows where he is (possibly sprinkled on the old West Ham ground by now) please let me know.
During 1953/54 SSM Vowles was my SSM. On arriving in Egypt he drilled the new arrivals for a week or two and introduced us to pistol drill. He was at this time HQ Squadron SSM and proved to be a fair minded man but not one to be other than utterly respectful to. No doubt he fully deserved his elevation to RSM.
That Terry beat me to it(?)but I did remember some of them by name, and quite a few by sight!Taken outside the QM block at Tidworth??Cor,did'nt they look like boys in those days! Happy days. ------ Don
