Isn't it amazing how a film could last so long in a camera without disintegrating?
Fantastic photos taken 68 years ago. Some of you will have to go to a museum to see what a Brownie camera looked like.

I have been asked to put this poem on the BB by Jim and Ilse in Australia in memory of Derek

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the bar,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew of where he spoke.

But we'll hear his tales no longer,

For ol' Bob has passed away,

And the world's a little poorer

For a Serviceman died today.

He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife..
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,

Going quietly on his way;

And the world won't note his passing,

‘Tho a Serviceman died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories

From the time that they were young

But the passing of a Serviceman

Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?

The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary Serviceman,

Who offered up his all,

Is paid off with a medal

And perhaps a pension, small.

It's so easy to forget them,
For it is so many times
That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys,
Went to battle, but we know,

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Serviceman
His home, his country, his kin,

Just a common Serviceman,

Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Serviceman,

And his ranks are growing thin,

But his presence should remind us

We may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict,

We find the Serviceman's part

Is to clean up all the troubles

That the politicians start.

If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days..

Perhaps just a simple headline

In the paper that might say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,

A SERVICEMAN DIED TODAY."

Pass On The Patriotism!


YOU can make a difference

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life,

wrote a blank cheque made payable to 'Australia', 'New Zealand', 'Canada', 'Great Britian', 'The United States' or any other God fearing country for an amount

"up to and including my life".

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this WORLD who no longer understand it.

Derek Leese

I must sadly report that 21124307 WO2 (SCM) Derek Leese (81) who served in the 1st Royal Dragoons between 1947 until amalgamation and finished his service with the Blues and Royals in 1970 passed away at home on the evening of Wednesday 25 th January 2012,

Condolences go to his widow Pat and Family at this sad time.

Funeral arrangements will be given in due course.

Things Got Ya Down? Well Then, Consider These . . ..

In a hospital's Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed, on Sunday morning, at about 11:00 am, regardless of their medical condition. This puzzled the doctors and some even thought it had something to do with the super natural. Pc Driver Updates

I have an application that will update all the drivers on your PC.

Every so often the manufacturers of hardware and software write new software for their devices, scanners, printers, cd/dvd hardware, network cards and anything else you can think of.

I ran the application and updated 71 essential drivers that I didn't even know that were out of date.

If you want to keep your PC up to date then this is a must. It doesn't really matter how old your system might be, it will find the right driver for the devices you have installed.

Patrick - one of the best Irish jokes yet

Patrick walks into a bar in Dublin,

Orders three pints of Guinness & sits in the corner of the room,

Drinking a sip out of each pint in turn.

When he had finished all three, He went back to the bar & ordered
three more.

The barman says, "You know a pint goes flat soon after I pull it
........... Your pint would taste better if you bought one at a time."

Patrick replies, "Well now, I have two brodders, one is in America ; &
de odder in Australia ; & here I am in Dublin When we all left home,
we promised dat we'd drink dis way to remember de days we all drank

The barman admits that this is a nice custom & says no more.

Patrick looks confused for a moment, then the penny drops & he starts
to laugh,

"Oh no," he says, "Bejesus, everyone is fine!

THE HIPPIE AND THE NUN

A hippie gets on a bus and spies a pretty young nun.

He sits down next to her, and asks her: "Can we have sex?"

"No," she replies, "I'm married to God."

She stands up, and gets off at the next stop.



The bus driver, who overheard, turns to the hippie and says:
"I can tell you how to get to have sex with her !"



"Yeah?", says the hippie.



"Yeah!", say the bus driver. "She goes to the cemetery every Tuesday night at midnight to pray, so all you have to do is dress up in a robe with a hood, put some of that luminous powder stuff in your beard, and pop up in the cemetery claiming to be God."



The hippie decides to give it a try, and arrives in the cemetery dressed as suggested on the next Tuesday night.



"I am God," he declares to the nun, keeping the hood low about his face. "Have sex with me."



The nun agrees without question, but begs him to restrict himself to anal sex, as she is desperate not to lose her virginity.



'God' agrees, and promptly has his wicked way with her. As he finishes, he jumps up and throws back his hood with a flourish.



"Ha-ha," he cries. "I'm the hippie!"



"Ha-ha-ha," cries the nun. "I'm the bus driver !"

New High Speed Rail Link

Apparently the Government have agreed on the new proposal for a rail link between Birmingham and London.
This will make it easier for families in London to visit their relations in Birmingham.
The government has released an artist’s impression of the new high speed train.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

THE TRAIN HOME...........

Coming back from another recent EC summit in Rome, various European leaders were forced to take the train due to a strike by Swiss ATC controllers; sitting together in the same compartment, travelling through the Swiss Alps, were Sarkozy, Cameron, Merkel and the young and very attractive female Irish foreign minister.
The train goes into a dark tunnel and a few seconds later there is the sound of a kiss followed by a loud slap.
When the train emerges from the tunnel, Sarkozy has a bright red, hand print on his cheek. No one speaks, everyone is extremely shocked and embarrassed.
Angela Merkel thinks: Sarkozy, not able to help himself, must have kissed the Irish girl in the dark, and she slapped his cheek.
The Irish girl thinks: Sarkozy, not able to help himself, must have tried to kiss me in the dark, but missed and kissed Merkel and she slapped his cheek.
Sarkozy thinks: Why me ? That perfidious Cameron must have groped the Irish girl in the dark knowing that I’d get the blame for it and she slapped me…the English bastard.
Cameron thinks: I can’t wait for another tunnel, just so I can kiss the back of my hand again and smack that little French sod another time.

RAC Press Ganged ??

Years ago, when we were young, I crewed the RAC yacht called The Red Jerboa. I remember Mr Barne being skipper and racing off Cowes in Cowes week in the Prince Consort Buoy Race. We won our class and got invited into the Royal Solent club for a drink or three. Do also recall Mr Barne trying to get up a spinnaker when everyone else had at least one reef on the mainsail. Just cant remember who were the other unlikely mariners........Any Takers???

The passing of Dave Young



I must sadly report that 23677958 LCoH DE (Dave) Young (72) who served with The Royal Dragoons and The Blues and Royals September 1958 October 1980, passed away on Thursday, 12 January 2012 after succumbing to cancer.



A funeral service will take place on Monday 23 January 2012, 3.30pm at Slough Crematorium Stoke Road, Slough, Berks SL2 5AX . No flowers but donations if desired, to The Royal British Legion via E Sargeant & Sons, 61 St Leonards Road, Windsor SL4.



The family would appreciate it if any of Daves friends and former colleagues could join them for refreshments after the funeral service at the TA Centre Bolton Rd, Windsor SL4 3JG.



The sincere condolences of the Association go to Daves widow, Marion, sons Mark and David and all family members at this difficult time

I have just spoken to Hammersmith Hospital, Scouse is in John Humphrey Ward being fed loads of anti biotics. John Finney has told me that he has MRSA, however the nurse on the ward said he can be visited ant day between 2.00 and 8.00 PM. hoping to go Thurs Fri. Tony

Mens Helpline

Letter to a men’s helpline...
Hi Bob, I really need your advice on a serious problem:
I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs: if the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs up; she goes out with the girls a lot.
I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home but I usually fall asleep.
Anyway last night about midnight I hid in the shed behind the boat. When she came home she got out of someone's car buttoning her blouse, then she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on.
It was at that moment crouched behind the boat that I noticed a hairline crack in the outboard engine mounting bracket.
Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace the whole bracket?

"Well there you have it, son," said his dad.
Theoretically we could be sitting on three million quid.
Realistically we're living with two tarts & a poof."

Problems with emails

Just to let you know that I'm not ignoring any emails but all I seem to get is junk mail. So all of you who have sent me emails and wondered why I have not responded please note I would never ignore you lot. Will get it looked into and get it sorted. This email business has been going on for a few months now...open up the inbox and there are hundreds of junk mail and one or two normal emails.

The passing of Mike Longley

It is with sadness that I report the death of Trp Mike Longley from Ashford Kent who served in the 1st Royal Dragoons from 1955 to 1958 first in C Sqn and then moved to be a clerk in HQ,
Condolences go out to his Wife and Family at this difficult time, I do not have any information with regards the funeral arrangements.

Mike was liked and respected by all that knew him, There was an incidence in Germany which I believe happened on the 13th November 1956 which Clal Card and Stuart Mckay may wish to tell us about with regards to Mike.

NINE WORDS WOMEN USE....

1 Fine : This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

2 Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

3 Nothing : This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

4 Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

5 Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

6 That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

7 Thanks : A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome'.. That will bring on a 'whatever').

8 Whatever : Is a woman's way of saying..I'm right and you're wrong.

9 Don't worry about it, I got it : Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to (3).

Gentlemen,
This year I'm repainting the Brengun Carrier, considering putting it in Royals decals post WWll. Many Regiments after the war had a variety of vehicles. Apart from Dingos, did the Regiment have Carriers in Recce section or HQ.
I was hoping to purchase a Mk 2 Ferret from Canada, but had a lot of difficulty with transfer to USA. pulled out of deal Sadly.

Subject: New Royal Navy Ships

 
The Royal Navy is proud of its new fleet of Type 45 destroyers. Having
initially named the first two ships HMS Daring and HMS Dauntless, the
Naming Committee has, after intensive pressure from Brussels , renamed
them HMS Cautious and HMS Prudence. The next five ships are to be named
HMS Empathy, HMS Circumspect, HMS Nervous, HMS Timorous and HMS
Apologist.

Costing £850 million each, they meet the needs of the 21st century and
comply with the very latest employment, equality, health & safety and
human rights laws.

The new user-friendly crow's nest comes equipped with wheelchair
access. Live ammunition has been replaced with paintballs to reduce the
risk of anyone getting hurt and to cut down on the number of
compensation claims. Stress counsellors and lawyers will be on duty
24hrs a day and each ship will have its on-board industrial tribunal.

The crew will be 50/50 men and women, and balanced in accordance with
the latest Home Office directives on race, gender, sexuality and
disability. Sailors will only have to work a maximum of 37hrs per week
in line with Brussels Health & Safety rules, even in wartime! All the
vessels will come equipped with a maternity ward and nursery, situated
on the same deck as the Gay Disco.

Tobacco will be banned throughout the ship, but cannabis will be
allowed in the wardroom and messes. The Royal Navy is eager to shed its
traditional reputation for; "Rum, sodomy and the lash"; so out has gone
the occasional rum ration which is to be replaced by sparkling water.
Although sodomy remains, it has now been extended to include all
ratings under 18. The lash will still be available but only on request.
Condoms can be obtained from the Bosun in a variety of flavours, except
Capstan Full Strength.

Saluting officers has been abolished because it is deemed elitist and
is to be replaced by the more informal, "Hello Sailor". All information
on notices boards will be printed in 37 different languages and
Braille. Crew members will now no longer be required to ask permission
to grow beards or moustaches - this applies equally to women crew
members.

The MoD is working on a new "non-specific" flag because the White
Ensign is considered to be offensive to minorities. The Union Flag had
already been discarded.

The newly re-named HMS Cautious is due to be commissioned soon in a
ceremony conducted by Captain Hook from the Finsbury Park Mosque who
will break a petrol bomb over the hull. She will gently slide into the
water as the Royal Marines Band plays "In the Navy" by the Village
People. Her first deployment will be to escort boat loads of illegal
immigrants across the channel to ports on England 's south coast.

The Prime Minister said, "While these ships reflect the very latest in
modern thinking, they are also capable of being up-graded to comply
with any new legislation coming out of Brussels ."
