Another sad day RIP Tony

Stan asked me to send the following

Sadly, Ex Boy Soldier Tony Watts, from the good old Wesendorf days passed away yesterday 8th November, 2008

There were only ever 4 'Royals' Boys at Wesendorf, myself (Stan) Jim Meike, Tony Watts and Pat Burgess. Jim Meikle and myself are now the only two left!

Being a 'Royals' Boy was a tough act to follow!

For example: If a Boy was caught smoking at Wesendorf it was an instant 7days Jankers!!!!!! - I think I Blancoed Dixey Lewis's web belt more times than his own Batman!

On a more positive note, we had to report at 11am daily to the cookhouse where Dixey gave us a cheese sandwich and a cup of cocoa - to the envy of the rest of the regiment I might add!

Tony was found dead in his car after telling his wife he was going out for a while.

I hope to be able to attend Tony's funeral as a Royals/TRBL standard bearer.

Tony lived in Rochester, Kent.

If anyone has Jim Lees's email address, would they please forward this to him.

As for the above picture, which I took in 2007 - Cheers TONY!

Stan and Terry Whitworth

Mick Lock

I have received a phone call today to inform me of the death of Mike Lock after a long illness bravely born although not on the site but met up with him two years ago at the North Staffs Dinner, my thoughts go out to his wife and family at this sad time.

And today to my Surprise what did I find a, Complete C42 Set. A'm I a happy old soldier. The Jeep has been up on Blocks for about 2 years, very dusty and needs some TLC. I plan to have it in Parade Condition by April.

JOHNS NEW FAMILY MEMBER

THE FIRST BOY BORN TO FAMILY IN 45 YEARS , GREATGRANDSON

Brisbane Welcomes Dick Cox

A few members from Brisbane gathered to have lunch with Richard (Dick) Cox - Life Guard and his partner Irene, who are currently holidaying near Brisbane and to show our Brisbane hospitality.  Although 7 attended but we all had fun, great conversation and some good laughs and most of all the food was delicious and plenty of drinks.

Dick presented a framed Life Guard plaque to put up on the wall once the Australasian Association gets launched.  On behalf of all members I would like to thank Dick for his lovely gift and this will be displayed at future functions.

Once again, it was worth the effort just to see the smiling faces.

AFV Eagle Transfer

Another item from Bandrat’s collection is this AFV regimental decal – I have 2 as per facing collar dogs. I cannot remember where I got these but I am sure it was when I was in Detmold 1966-1968. On the back it is printed Gale & Polden Ltd & ‘Soak transfer in tepid water for about a minute and slide from paper’.

BB Memberships

Hi Derek

Just like to run this suggestion past you for consideration??????        Would it be a good thing for all members from both 'Royals BBs' to register their names on both BBs.     Just in case disaster strikes one or the other.    As long as there is a link on both sites to the other then they can move freely and easily between the two......if they miss something on one then they can pick it up on the other.     Give it a thought and see what you think.

Regards......Mike.

Christmas Cards

Dear Blues & Royals Commitiee Members.
It would be nice to be able to purchase a Christmas Card showing a Royal Dragoon. I frame all my cards and send cards to all my friends but to date they are all showing Royal Horse Guards and Blues and Royals. It would be nice for all ex Royals to be able to purchase a card showing a Royal Dragoon also a Blue and a Royal together.
I am sure there are lots of paintings of both Regiments that could be used.

MSN Groups

MSN Groups will be closing on February 21, 2009. It'll be replaced with a new service, Windows Live Groups, which debuts on November 17.

Here's the catch: The LiveSide post indicates MSN Groups will not be migrating to Windows Live Groups; the new Windows Live service will be different enough so that the transition wouldn't be a clean one. Instead, the LiveSide post says that existing MSN Groups will transition to community site Multiply--in other words, Multiply is effectively acquiring MSN Groups from Microsoft.

Representatives from Multiply, which said earlier this month that it has reached 10 million registered users, confirmed the news. Microsoft representatives released a longer statement: "It is true that we are planning to close the MSN Groups service on February 21, 2009 and will offer you the opportunity to move your group to our new partner service, Multiply. We understand the importance of keeping your group together, so we partnered with Multiply to create a migration process that moves your group to their service to preserve your online community and its history.

Empress of Australia

I've decided that at last I'm going round the twist. I've obviously led Derek on a wild goose chase about an aircraft crash in the Med in 1950 when no trace of the incident is recorded anywhere. Then the first inkling I get about other things witnessed on the trip was a message posted by Don Mallinder outlining them. I was about to reply to Don but I can't find his message, either on this BB or the other one. Am I imagining that as well? Please somebody HELP!.

Don,
I saw you reply saying that you were on the 'Empress of Australia' but I can't bring it up again. Anyway, do you remember the incident in the Med when we had to stop to pick up survivers from an aircraft crash? At least that's what's in my mind . There were other ships there including a warship. I've looked through the web for an account of a crash at that time but without success.
Is it all in my mind or did it really happen?.

The Gurkha's

The plight of the Gurkhas is not yet over, Please sign this petition.

Please read the following from Joanna Lumley:

"The Gurkhas have won a famous victory in their landmark case this week.  However, the judge was only able to declare the current policy that excludes pre 1997 Gurkhas from the right to live in the UK as 'unlawful.  Only the British Government can put in place the new policy that the British people want - the right of all Gurkhas to settle in the UK irrespective of the date of retirement.  There is a real danger that the Government will fudge this opportunity and bring in new rules that still discriminate against pre 1997 retirees.  For that reason, I am asking if you would publicise my new website www.gurkhajustice.org.uk.

I am asking the British public to sign up to it in their millions so that I might go, within days, to the Prime Minister with the largest ever petition on this issue to show him the strength of feeling from all sections of society."
