And today to my Surprise what did I find a, Complete C42 Set. A'm I a happy old soldier. The Jeep has been up on Blocks for about 2 years, very dusty and needs some TLC. I plan to have it in Parade Condition by April.

A B47 would be nice if anyone has tucked away in there attic.
Colin,
ReplyDeleteJeep - Ah,that brings back memories. When I first joined the Regt and got posted to MT Troop we had two Jeeps in the pool. They were great favourites with us drivers,I always remember the starter on the floor which you pressed with your insensitive ammo boot to start the motor.I drove one once on exercise and got bogged down, guy on the carrying handle at each corner and I was lifted out of the mire! Can't remember the Reg No,but it would be a coincidence if my fingerprints are on your Jeep(I was gonna say "Willys"but then I thought some of those youngsters won't know who made 'em and think I'm being rude)

Colin,
ReplyDeleteMemories a bit dim on de-cals on those old vehicles.Think you are confusing me with someone else on RECCE Troop,at Amalgamation I was SSM/SCM of Command Sqn.Coming back to vehicles in those old MT days,we had Jeeps,15cwt Bedfords,English V8 Fords,Canadian V8 Fords(Went like the wind)Humber 4X4(Sqn Leaders vehs)Bedford and Austin 3 tonners(the Austins continually ran their small ends)a Morris 15cwt 4X4,one Humber Snipe(COs)and a number of VWs(you could hire 'em out for SIXPENSE a day)One of the Austin 3 tonners was boxed and used by the Orderly Room on exercises!I remember how we used to tear up and down those Autobahns - no traffic-great.I was taking a Trumpet party to Wunsdorf for a funeral during the Berlin airlift when a wasp went down the back of my shirt,I left the Autobahn but luckily got away with it and was able to continue to Wunsdorf. The Trumpeters looked a bit pale though!
