Michelle is the daughter of Ssgt Ken Webster who was in the regiment from 1961 to 1969, Michelle got in touch through Forces Reunited, asking if anyone remembers her dad who unforunately died in 1991, Michelle's ID is (bestcat).
Hi Michelle.and welcome, yes I knew your Dad very well. we first met at Bovington RAC centre in about 1959, we were both in transit he was an Hussar at the time his regiments had been amalgamated and he was transferred to the Royals.Little did I know that I would also be transferred to the Royals, and your Dad was one of the first people I met when I joined the regt at Singapore He was in A sqdn at the time and he was about to go up to Ipoh and I was to stay in Singapore with C sqdn. but he pulled a few strings and I ended up staying with A sqdn and going up to ipoh. I often think of him and am very sorry to hear of his death, if I remember rightly I think he went on recruitment after Malaya.enjoy the blog Frank
Yes I remember Ken very well as he was my troop sgt for a time in in Malaya, he was very good to me as my mother passed away he gave me time off from my duties.
Hi Michelle I remember your dad , as I was in 1st troop A sqn in Ipoh Though in the Journal of June 1962 he was listed as Sgt of Transport Group also reports the promotion of Ken to Staff Sgt IF thats correct ? Welcome Delmonte
Hi Dave, Did you know my dad, if so where were you at the time, things are difficult to remember because at the time in Malaya & singapore l was about 5 or 6, now being 56 things are still difficult to remember? Best wishes Michelle
Hi Frank, Thanks for the welcome, l remember Bovie & Malaya Singapore but l was only about 5 or 6, l know Tidworth is in there as well, l think that was just before we went to Detmold, l think we were there a couple of years before he was posted to Kinmel Camp in Bodelwyddan N wales where dad did some boxing refereeing in his spare time, but his actual job was managing director of a flooring company. Best wishes Michelle
Hi Butch, Nice to hear from you, just found this site through John Atkins. Its a shame all this technology was'nt about when dad was, he'd of loved it. Best wishes Michelle
I've only now seen this post and I am certain that the person in question is he who was SQMS HQ Sqn in Detmold. I was SSM so we saw a lot of each other and became good friends. I am sad to hear that he is no longer with us. Paddy
