  4. Stan you are right this was in 61, Mike Eddie tells me that Mark Hatch was the commander of a Ferret inSingapore instead of him, as Eddie said that he had to do something else, while he was out he was killed by some train track that were being transported on the back of a lorry.

  5. Interesting, John. Sgt Mark Hatch DoD 23rd May 1962 (Royals Journal) But I didn't know how or where he died. Is his name on the NMA?

  6. Stan I will have a word with Eddie about this as it was him that told me last weekend, and he said that it was when they were in Singapore,
in 62 Eddie was in Ipoh.

  7. Strange, because we'd just returned from the Philippines via Da Nang and were in Singapore around this time. No Royals trumpeter was ever requested for his funeral neither Singapore nor in Ipoh! Where was he buried and is there a photo of the grave site, similar to the one in Muscat? Equally as important is his name on the NMA? Has Mark's NoK applied for a posthumous PJM Medal yet? Lots of questions here, least we forget!

  9. Stan, I had a chat with Eddie this morning, you are right it was May 62 Eddie said it was at the time that he was out on exercise that Mark was sent into Singapore as the radio ops, Eddie thought the reason he was not sent is because the officer thought that Mark had a better talking voice than him, i,e, more posh, Eddie also said that the accident happened on a roundabout where a lorry carrying Railway lines caught Mark and decapitated him, He was buried in Singapore where his father who was a vicar came out from England and officiated the service, Eddie was not sure where he was actually buried and has no knowledge of any photo being taken, Denis looked up the NMA site to find that Marks name is there on the plot, Eddie was one of the pall bearers so he tells me, I hope that this now finally explains how Mark came to loose his life in Singapore, R.I.P.

  10. Thanks for that John. I believe the cemetery was moved a few years ago in order to make way for some building work. I'll see what I can find out through the Legion. It would be nice if we could arrange for a posthumous PJM to be presented to Mark's next of kin, bearing in mind we don't know if any of Mark's next of kin are still alive. I'll try my vicar and see if she can locate Mark's father. I'm at the NMA next month so will try and get some photos.
