This damn machine is playing up again. Anyway here is what I want to say in reply to Neil and Derek. Frank Kimble was in A Sqn, I shared a tent with him in Suez Zone and the last I remember of him was when he was TQMS (now when was that?) You had quite a colourful career after you left us Neil. Have you ever been back to the UK?. Derek, You could be right about the Cpl.The little grey cells are not functioning that well so I can't say. Paddy .
Paddy KIMBLE was never TQMS in the REGT.i have followed his movements in the EAGLE his last posting as WO11 was to the AAC BAOR in 1965.. JOE T was TQMS
Paddy KIMBLE was never TQMS in the REGT.i have followed his movements in the EAGLE his last posting as WO11 was to the AAC BAOR in 1965.. JOE T was TQMS
Two things. Firstly Derek, I'm sure that Frank Kimble was TQMS at some stage. Before Joe Titmarsh.Second, Neil beat me by a year to getting his third stripe. It was a toss up which of us had been the youngest Sergeant ever in the r egiment( excluding attached persionnel i.e Edn. Corps. etc.) Paddy
Paddy my records show that in 1963 KIMBLE was ERE RAC CENTRE also was Dick Watorski Frank Fletcher was TQMS..IN 1965 JOE T took over TQMS from FLETCHER AND Joe was TQMS till 1969..KIMBLE went from Bovvy to AAC in BAOR FRANK FLETCHER was TQMS IN 1962 when you were in RAC Centre with Frank Kimble..Dick the Wop. and Ginger Warren
Paddy how right you are KIMBLE TOOK OVER FROM ALEC AYRTON in June 1959 Ayrton went as RQMS. seems odd that KIMBLE was a SGT in June 1958 and took over TQMS in 1959
Yes Derek,it was a quick step up. But things don't always follow the norm. I've a feeling that Cliff Crabb held the same appointment, albeit temporary, before he joined us as a Sgt. I might have that wrong. but there was some peculiarity Paddy
I could not remember Capt. Timbrel"s spelling , I believe he was formerly with the Arab Legion or something. Greaves used to call him Bimbashi" I heard he went on to command the regiment. Interesteed in comments!

Yes, 'Bimbashi' Maj. Kenneth Timbrell took over as Sq. Ldr. A Sqn. in Chester and carried on so until the end of the fifties. His nickname came from the fact that he served in the Sudan Defence Force at some stage between the end of the war and rejoining the Regt. in Wolfenbuttle. He was a bit of an eccentric and not everybody's cup of tea ,demanding a very high standard. He was however an outstanding soldier who didn't like 'Yes Men' and I'll always remember him from his saying that 'Loyalty works both ways'. And he believed it. He was CO in Tidworth. I'm sure that Don Mallinder will remember him well. Paddy
Paddy, I remember him very well, very smart. He raked me out of bed once at Tidworth as the MT vehicles were not lined up to his satisfaction, one was at least an inch out of line. The MT ammended his title to "Binbasher",as he had the habit of riding round the vehicle parks on his horse banging the tool bins with his whip to see if the bins were locked. On another occasion he had me,as guard commander, put two young 2Lts in the guardroom for the night as they were swimming in the static water pool in their Blues! And he'd crawl into the dirtiest engine compartment to speak to a Trooper! He was very charming if he happened to meet your wife,in his way the perfect Gentleman! Someone you never forget! ------- Don
I can remember one afternoon in IPOH when i was on PROVO duty the BIN came and said that his horse had kicked a COBRA and that i had to check that it was dead.[no chance] I sent the fire picquet to check it out
A Sqn 2nd from right front row sitting Me !! Don Mallinder 19031190 .The second in commanded is Major Timbrell M.C. he had returned to the Regt from the Sudan. The photo was taken some few months after we had returned from Berlin and before our move to Chester and the inspection by The King. ..
I've been trying to enlarge the Sqn. photo to see if I'm on it but without success. I can't remember when I joined 'A' Sqn, but it was around that time. Sgt. Eli Joyce was my Troop Leader .Ist Troop. Paddy

Yes Don, his horse riding was also a feature in Fanara where he rode through the tent lines bashing a Polo ball.
