ReplyDeleteSGT BEN HALES OF THE ROYALS WAS POSTED TO BOVINGTON JLR IN 1964 NOT SURE HOW LONG HE STAYED BUT WAS STILL THERE IN 1965.
ReplyDeleteDerek, I remember Norman Hales. However don't know if he did 33yrs. It is possible he was N.S. in 47, then re-enlisted. I first met him when he came to "C" Sqn. in Little Aden. I can recall him in a group conversation with Joe Ingham, myself and possibly Ken Cooke. His party piece was: He used to draw his abdomen up under his rib cage (looked like someone from Belsen). I went to JLR Dec 61. Norman was there befor 64, as I took my Discharge in early March and can remember going up to London for the Cav. Memorial with him and Ginger Warren (so it must have been 63, at the latest). He ended up as Regt. Police at JLR and (I've heard) even though he was Blues and Royals. He had his Royals Cap Badge under the front flap of tunic skirt and would Flash it and wink. A true Royal and a great loss. alex(kev)
