  3. I remember the working day endings going into the washrooms to scrub the hands and forearms with hot water and Vim! One of the best things I ever brought back off leave was a 7 lb tub of Swarfega!

  8. Ah Swarfega now there is a blast from the past and yes you can still get it. Pixie I don't take sugar these days as I have to keep myself in peak racing trim. The FSC is really looking the business well done.

  11. I am still haunted by packing all that lambs wool into the oil filter who in their right mind thought that was a good idea? How much silver paint did we get through?

  15. I knew it was you that had them but couldn't prove it. Have you also got that toothless German woman who bit Pixie and put him in the Krankenhaus?

  16. No. I had to make do with her teeth. I keep them in a glass jar and use them to scare the grandchildren

  17. The best thing to put in a glass is Herforder OR Paderborner but not some old Haus Fraus' knashers mate.

  20. As far as I can remember weren't the Sqn tactical signs' in Germany painted in good old cavalry yellow along with the black square front and back with 20/2 painted in white. I could do with one of those Eagles for my car.

  21. Sorry Pixie, just checked the Recce Troop photos and you are correct the HQ tac signs WERE red and not as I thought yellow. Will buy you a pint at the reunion.

  24. I serviced my car for a year using all of the "O's" and a few gallons of petrol from my trusty Cent'

  25. I really take your point Don, soldiers now are not allowed to paint their vehicles unless there is a proper spray booth available AND they are qualified AND they are deemed competent. Now that regiments only hold one squadrons worth of vehicles the maintainence is easier than in our day. OMD 90X has replaced 110 and the oil change period has been extended to 18 months. That's why when the boys are not on ops they are adventure training, Barry Wall would love all the skiing.

  26. Do they still get issued with "denims"?

  27. Yes normally three pairs of fire resistant coveralls which hang like a canvas sack , not at all smart but I suppose practicality is safer. It really is a different Army to the one we were in and I only finished in 2008 and it was changing almost daily then. I will say though that the field / combat kit is far superior to the stuff we had .

  28. Here's a good one for you. In the course of stripping the Ferret down & checking all parts out. We came to the brakes turn, they had been sticking, Hung up? WE found would you believe it., after taking the drums off The Brake return springs where missing all but one on the right side!!! We have yet to check out the left side. Have found some spares that will do for the tome being until I get the correct type from UK? I dont know how long this has been driving in this condition. I phoned the previous owner yesterday, he and his mechanic were unaware of the missing parts? ( so they say)!! Its still fun. we will get it working Carry on Regardless!!!

  30. Today, I took the left side brakes down, and guess what? only one spring on the rear, none on the front. I have got a complete set of springs coming from Banisters, Sussex UK and some other parts. He just e-mailed dispatching Monday. Think me crazy! when we did this for a living we complained, moaned, bitched but know I'm really enjoying re-building this Ferret.
